The Larkspur Library Foundation (the "Larkspur Library Foundation") is one of the first non-profit corporations in Marin County, California formed for the purpose of supporting a local public library.

In March 1977 twenty-five dedicated Larkspur citizens signed the organizing documents for the Larkspur Library Foundation. They wanted a non-profit corporation that would provide permanent support for the City of Larkspur's municipal library. The articles of incorporation mention the Foundation's literary and educational purposes "for the advancement of the public library of the City of Larkspur" and to "provide funds for an endowment for the benefit of the public library of Larkspur".

As the articles state, the Larkspur Library Foundation maintains certain funds as a permanent endowment allowing income to be spent for the Library while preserving the endowed principal; and it also maintains other unrestricted funds to support the Library. In 2005, the Larkspur Library Foundation established a separate building fund so that donors can earmark donations for use on a further renovated or new library building.

Over the years the Larkspur Library Foundation has made annual donations to the Larkspur Library for adult and children's book acquisitions, for improved computers and other equipment, furniture, and other items. In 1983, the Foundation was a major contributor of funds for the renovation of the Library. In 2005 the Foundation received two grants, one for $6,000 for the children's books and one for $500 for the sight impaired, which were immediately utilized for the Library; and it also donated $5,000 for adult books.

Our mission is to raise and distribute funds to enhance the Library of the City of Larkspur. The Foundation seeks funds through an annual appeal, a raffle, and the generous support of library patrons through gifts, bequests, trusts and other financial support.

The Larkspur Library Foundation is a non-profit California corporation qualified as tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Tax Identification Number of the Foundation is #94-2466558.
